We were up and out of the hostel at 6.30am the next day to get a good walk into the national park, as our bus left at 10.30am. We started out in the dark and followed the main coastal path for 1 and a half hours before turning back. We saw Weka’s, a type of woodhen that I was convinced was a Kiwi and got some beautiful views of the surrounding area. My only wish was that we had that extra day to explore the national park for longer!
Our next destination was Westport, which was one of the most pointless places I have ever been to. We stayed in an art hotel, which was the type of place where bad things happen to good people and the rest of our day went by in a haze of naps and crap food made in the hostel kitchen. One thing I have learnt is that the Kiwi Experience stops in some pointless places and this was certainly one of them. The next stop however was one of the most anticipated so far, and boy it didn’t disappoint!
