It’s Booked! (& I could pee with excitement)

I can’t quite believe it but after months of dreaming, planning and stressing we have an itinerary and our flights booked! Myself and my boyfriend Matt are embarking on an 8 month backpacking trip and we are officially leaving London on 2nd January 2017; what an amazing start to the new year?! Ever since I visited Thailand 5 years ago I have had a burning desire to return to South East Asia to experience more of the amazing landscape and culture, and the travel bug within me may, or may not, have got a little carried away with the rest of the route. However I’ve worked two jobs for a year now and have saved my arse off, so I really do think I deserve this; after all it is the trip of a lifetime!

Our route will take us from London to Bangkok, where we will use public transport to explore Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia before heading back into Southern Thailand to relax on the Islands. We will then fly from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, before heading onto Auckland. After exploring New Zealand and heading south, we will fly out of Christchurch and into Melbourne, before heading up the east coast to Brisbane & Cairns. From here we head to Fiji for 10 days of bliss before travelling over to Bali and Indonesia for our last month. We touch back down in London on 7th August 2017.

While I know that this is only the beginning; as we still have so much more to organise and plan, booking our flights makes it seem real! I’ve had a smile on my face ever since I left STA Travel earlier and have already spent an obscene amount of money on Lonely Planet guides.

We decided to choose STA because of their youth and multi-flex tickets, making our flights not only cheaper but also super flexible if anything were to go wrong! If we had booked all of our flights separately it would have cost us considerably more for non-changeable and non-refundable tickets, so having it all organised by a specialised travel company seemed the way to go. Toni our rep was so helpful, listened to the route we wanted and made it happen, taking 3 hours out of her schedule to find us the best deals at the best times. I was really worried that we would have to sacrifice some destinations or their weather so I can’t quite believe that we have got everything that we wanted!

Keep checking back on ‘Ill Be Right Back’ as I will be posting lots of information as we book and organise the finer details of this amazing trip; and of course I will be sharing this amazing adventure on my blog while I’m travelling too! If you have any questions about my experience with STA Travel, or even have some tips about my planned destinations please do comment; I would love love love to hear about them!

    1. I feel like 7 months won’t be enough! I’m definitely not going to want to return once it’s over! Where did you travel to during your time away?

  1. How freaking incredible! I’ve planned far less intense trips then this and felt like i was drowning in details – so this is amazing how you put this all together! I will be checking back for trip updates and pictures 🙂

    1. Thank you! It’s been interesting that’s for sure! The planning stage seems so long ago now though; kind of wish I was doing it all again so I could feel that excitement!
